Today, an earthquake centred in Virginia with a magnitude of 5.8 shook a broad swath of the eastern U.S. and parts of central and eastern Canada on Tuesday.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centred near Mineral, Va., about 135 kilometres southwest of Washington, D.C.
In the Washington, D.C., many major buildings were evacuated. In nearby Virginia, people ran through the hallways of the Pentagon with some screaming, "Evacuate! Evacuate!"
