DETROIT, MI - June 14, 2015 -  After a intensive five-months of progressive entrepreneurship training, Automotive Industry's Axel Cooley has just successfully completed the New Leaders Council Institute. It is the premier leadership and professional development, training, mentoring, networking, and career and political advancement program for young professionals.

As a NLC Detroit Fellow, Axel was elected for being successful in the automotive industry, being a risk-taker, and progressive advocate. In fact, leaders are nominated into the council for their:
  1. Distinct ability to lead;
  2. Entrepreneurial spirit – having the ability to reckon and pursue opportunity; and,
  3. A team orientation, confidence, and humility—being the type of person who supports others.
Only a group of 20 are elected in each city. In being selected to represent the city of Detroit, Axel committed one weekend per month for five months to join the 19 other elected leaders in the City of Detroit to participate in training on topics from messaging to finance to political management. In the process, she had the honor of contributing to the a cohesive group committed to rebuilding Detroit.

As part of the NLC Institute Curriculum, Cooley completed the "Leadership capstone" where she committed to a project to impact the Detroit community. She immediately got to work, partnered with Jay Rayford - Director of the Futures Project - and Lawrence Robinson - Assistant to the City of Detroit's Director of Youth Services - to establish a program entitled "DETROIT DE3 - Empower, expose, engage". DE3 is a 5-week long program to teach Detroit's youth important tools of succeeding in the world of work - specifically, information not currently taught in the regular school curriculum. From recognizing their strengths, to reckoning and seizing opportunities, students learn how to value themselves, to put forth great efforts and how to conduct effective interviews. In all, the program exposes youth to information that will enhance their quality of life. The DE3 pilot program rolled out in May at Southwest Detroit's Western High School and is now scheduled to be implemented in 10 Detroit Public Schools in the Fall.
Axel Cooley is honored to put forth great efforts in the Automotive industry, but also to lead by example in contributing to our community as a whole.
