New Leaders Council (NLC) is a 501(c)(3) that recruits, trains and promotes the progressive political entrepreneurs of tomorrow — trendsetters, elected officials and civically-engaged leaders in business and industry who will shape the future landscape.
The Mission: To recruit, train and promote the next generation of progressive leaders. NLC is creating an solid network of individuals, highly-skilled in collaborating together across industries to improve the progressive infrastructure and ensure strong democracy, social justice, and equal opportunity. The NLC Detroit Chapter, like the 30+ other NLC chapters around the nation, has worked to recruit Fellows from outside traditional power structures and empowers them with the skills necessary to be civic leaders in their communities and workplaces. This mission is realized primarily through the NLC Institute -- the nation’s premiere political entrepreneurship training program. Detroit's first NLC Institute began in January 2015 with an outstanding class of 20 progressive leaders who are rising to the top of their respective fields as noted below.
